Up to 15 members may join the board at any time. Terms last for three years and may be renewed. Prospective members should make their interest known or are otherwise recruited by our nominating committee. 


New board members are officially nominated and begin their term at Annual Member Meeting in October, while the tenureship of the board and officers end at the end of the calendar year. With this arrangement, the new members can take advantage of learning from the seasoned members before they depart.

Board Member Commitments

  • Attend quarterly board meetings, currently held on Orcas Island or online through Zoom. This includes our Annual Member Meeting held in October, to which all KOPL members are invited.
  • Participate in committee activities, service projects, and special events.
  • Assist in fundraising efforts as needed.
  • Consider joining as an officer (president, vice president, treasurer, or secretary).

your skills are needed

Bring your passion to Patos! Your experience and professional background is always valuable to our organization. There are also many opportunities to learn new skills and work collaboratively.

Expertise in construction, law, maritime industries, natural sciences, local history, grant writing, photography and MORE are always welcome!
